A Message from the board

This past year, 2021, has undoubtedly been a year of challenges as we grapple with the impact of Covid-19.

The challenges of changing Public Health guidelines, adapting both our professional and personal lives to accommodate this new reality, the reinvention of social interaction to a virtual format, and modifying not only day-to-day life but also business strategies to respond to a shift to a digital world have been faced by everyone. As we have faced these challenges over the last year, we have rediscovered the many strengths of Wasaga Beach, including the multitude of natural resources, from miles of walking trails to the longest fresh-water beach in the world and the beauty of the Nottawasaga River, all of which have been enjoyed by our community and visitors. This past year has highlighted the generosity of our community that has continued to support the wide variety of community organizations and the dedication of front-line workers in every business, and the continued sense of solidarity of our residents who have supported our local economy.

The Chamber has demonstrated its commitment to supporting local businesses by adopting innovative ways to provide service, support consumers and embrace change. As we strive to adhere to our mission of Advocacy, Education and Networking, our newsletter provides our members with up-to-date information on changing guidelines and government initiatives, including economic support and health measures like easy access to Covid-19 Rapid Test Kits. We have provided access to various webinars on economic recovery, the development of a digital presence, and information on community events. The newsletter also focused on identifying local businesses within the Covid mandate that provided modified services, including curbside pickups and delivery. Our Social Media has taken a more significant role in our efforts to communicate with all community members. We continue to endorse the Digital Marketplace web portal, allowing quick web access to information on local businesses and their services. As we began to reopen, we partnered with various local and regional organizations to share information on government funding opportunities and resource availability to meet operating requirements.

We continue to provide networking and social interaction, albeit virtually, through our Business After five events, highlighting our members and sharing experiences of our successes and challenges throughout this pandemic. This year our topic will include “Knowing Your Resources,” “Cyber Protection,” and other issues geared to equip our members with the tools they will need to be successful in this new business environment. Our Women in Business Awards, Annual General Meeting and Business Expo, and Business Recognition Ceremony and Awards continue to evolve in a virtual forum with increasing participation. Our Salute to the Mayor’s event this past year included several surrounding municipalities as we work together to share resources and support our regional economic recovery.

In 2021, the Chamber serviced a membership of 186, and we welcomed ten new members who joined us during the year. The support that the Wasaga Beach Chamber of Commerce receives from its members and the community at large is awe-inspiring. We are so grateful for the dedication of our Board Members and our staff for their untiring efforts to realize our mandate. We know that we will face new challenges this year as we work together to defeat the pandemic and recover from its effects. All aspects of the economy, brick-and-mortar as well as a home-based businesses, and not-for-profit, will adapt to these new challenges. Our Town is ready to engage in the opportunities ahead of us. Through collaboration and education, we will emerge ready to provide the services and products demanded with the health and well-being of all stakeholders at the forefront. While the post-pandemic future has many unknowns, we have confidence that together we will emerge with solid connections, increased knowledge, and determination.
